My latest carving is from a large piece of North Dakota cottonwood bark, 17" long and 4 1/2" wide. This piece was 3" thick before carving. I tried something different with this one. I used boot cream polish to color and seal this carving. I applied black polish to the hair and claws, and neutral to the entire carving. The polish worked well because you can buff a lot of it off. Leaving the color, but allowing the grain to show. This carving is available for purchase here..... Warrior

Fur Trapper in Cottonwood Bark
Found a fur trapper mountain man hiding in this piece of Iowa cottonwood bark. He measures 13" long and 2"- 4" wide. He was sealed with two coats of matte varnish polyurethane and a coat of Howard's Feed 'N Wax. He is available for purchase at my Etsy store.

Back At It
The holidays are over, and the carved Santas and ornaments are gone. It's time to get back to freeing some wood spirits. Come back and see who's hiding in these pieces of cottonwood bark.
