Hackberry Wood Spirit

Here is my new wood spirit.. This is the first time I have carved hackbery. It is a hard wood and carved with mallet and chisels.  I took down a hackberry tree on my property, so I will be carving more. I think I like the yellow color. It still amazes me how the carving comes to life when I finish the eyes. Burning the iris really has a dramatic effect. He is sealed with a light coat of polyurethane

Shoal Creek June 2017

Another great day at Shoal Creek Living History Museum. It was hot, humid and not much of a breeze on Saturday, but still had a good time talking with the visitors. I started a new carving from a piece of hackberry.

Cedar Log Santa

Well. it turns out the kids at Shoal Creek were right. Santa Claus was hiding in this cedar log. I finished him with a light coat of polyurethane. Now on tho the next one. I had a hackberry tree cut down on my property, think I'll try a piece of it.
